A look at Orwell’s Newspeak

During my time as Oxford Dictionaries intern at the New York City office of Oxford University Press, I created a number of different blog articles for Oxford Dictionaries’ “OxfordWords” blog (now “Lexico”), with subjects based around where language and literature intersect. This particular article is focused on the complex terminology and linguistics of George Orwell’s invented language Newspeak from his seminal novel 1984.
